Williams County Sheriff’s Office engages in highway pursuit

WILLISTON, N.D. (May 1, 2023) – On April 29, 2023, at approximately 9:42 am, the Williams County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report that an individual had located their stolen trailer at an address west of Williston.

Upon arriving at the property, the responding Deputy witnessed a male attaching the trailer to a tan pickup. Upon seeing the Deputy, the male climbed into the tan pickup and fled with the stolen trailer attached. The male began driving through fields and eventually drove onto Highway 2.

The tan pickup traveled at high rates of speed and drove erratically. Deputies with the Williams County Sheriff’s Office continued to pursue, and were joined by members of the North Dakota Highway Patrol. The tan pickup led law enforcement onto Highway 1804 South. The pursuit continued into McKenzie County, where the trailer disconnected from the pickup, and eventually into Richland County, MT where ND law enforcement discontinued the pursuit. A short time later, the tan pickup and driver were located in Fairview, MT.

The driver has been identified as 28 year old Jacob Galloway. Galloway was apprehended by the Richland County Sheriff’s Office in Fairview and is currently being held at the Richland County Jail. The trailer has been recovered and returned to the rightful owner. Charges are pending. No injuries were reported.

The Williams County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the Williston Police Department, the North Dakota Highway Patrol, and the Richland County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance in this situation.
