Passport Services from Williams County

Williams County provides the public with two convenient locations in downtown for passport services and information: the Williams County Treasurer/Recorder’s Office and the Williston Motor Vehicle Office (DMV).

Passport Books and Passport Cards

Both a regular passport (passport book) and a passport card can be used as proof of U.S. citizenship and identity, but they do have different international travel uses. The passport book can be used for international travel by air, sea, and land anywhere in the world, but a passport card can only be used for land border crossings and sea ports-of-entry from Canada, Mexico, countries in the Caribbean, and Bermuda.

What to Bring

Please bring the following items with you when applying for a passport.

U.S. Passport Checklist

 Certified US Birth Certificate (or equivalent), expired US Passport Book (or Card), or Naturalization Papers

 Two Passport Photos

 Completed Passport Form

  • Please use black ink only and DO NOT SIGN. For help determining which form you need, or if the applicant is a minor, please visit the form finder on the US State Department website

 North Dakota Photo ID

  • A second form of ID will be required if your photo ID is not a North Dakota ID. The second form should show as much of the following information as possible: your photo, full name, date of birth, and the document issuance date. For more information about IDs, visit the State Department Passport website.

 Check or Money Order made out to the US Department of State

 $35 Execution (Acceptance) Fee (cash, credit card, check, or money order payable to the office you are visiting). $15 fee for Passport Photos can also be included in this payment if having photos taken at the DMV.

Expedited Passport Checklist

An expedited passport can be processed in approximately 3-5 weeks. The fees are as follows:

 $35 Execution (Acceptance) Fee (cash, check, credit card, or money order payable to the office you are visiting). $15 fee for Passport Photos can also be included in this payment if having photos taken at the DMV.
Optional: For even faster service, passport applications can be sent overnight to the U.S. Department of State. The cost is dependent upon current USPS fees (historically these range anywhere from $22 to $30) and can be included with the Execution and Photo Fees.
