Ice Fishing

Season Information

A North Dakota fishing license is required for residents and nonresidents ages 16 and older. Licenses are valid for one year starting April 1 and ending March 31 of the following year. They can be purchased from the ND Game and Fish website.

Ice fishing is allowed at all of our County Parks with lake or river access once the ice forms. Williams County nor ND Game & Fish monitor ice thickness. Please make sure you check the ice thickness before setting up! Ice depth conditions can also change quickly, so always use caution on the ice.

Unoccupied ice houses on the ice MUST follow all ND Game & Fish regulations and be removed by March 15 each year.

Where to Fish

Vehicles and ice houses are allowed on the ice at Blacktail Dam, Epping/Springbrook Dam, Little Egypt (Lake Sakakawea), and McGregor Dam. Due to construction for park improvements, the lake at Kota Ray Dam will not be open for the 2024-2025 ice fishing season.

Access

Ice fishing access at Little Egypt is available via a gate at the end of the parking lot on the east end of the park. You may drive onto the ice, but please proceed directly to the ice and do not stop or park on the beach. The gate is NOW OPEN for seasonal access.
