West Nile Virus has been detected in Williams County in isolated pools of mosquitoes in the Williston area. Earlier this month, the North Dakota Department of Health and Human Services reported the first human case of West Nile Virus this season, located in Morton County. The public should be aware that there is a risk of contracting West Nile Virus anytime mosquitoes are active. Taking extra precaution to avoid mosquitoes bites is important this time of year. Here’s what you can do at home:

  • Wear long sleeve tight knit shirts and long pants
  • Limit time outdoors between dusk and dawn
  • Use a mosquito repellent such as DEET, Picardin, or oil of lemon eucalyptus
  • Eliminating standing water on your property

The WCVCD uses Zenivex E20 for adult mosquito control treatments (adulticides), which contains the active ingredient Etofenprox. Zenivex E20 is a product approved for use in residential areas by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
